Essential Tips For Maximising Your Google AdSense Earnings

Google AdSense is one of the most popular online advertising network for publishers. Learn how to maximise your Google AdSense earnings.

Google AdSense is one of the most popular online advertising network for publishers, and for good reasons!
It enables you to easily serve targeted ads (image or text) relevant to your website and get paid when someone clicks on the ads or every time the ads are displayed a thousand times.

As one of Singapore’s top marketing agency, mOOnshot digital focuses on three proven optimisation strategies to maximise our clients earnings through AdSense. We want to share them with you because we believe that well-informed publishers will become better business partners. Here are our essential optimisation strategies to maximise your Google AdSense earnings today:

1. Ad Size Matters

Based on our experience with online publishers, the following ad units have proven to deliver greater results:

  • 300 x 250 Medium Rectangle
  • 728 x 90 Leaderboard
  • 160 x 600 Skyscraper

They are also the formats that are most commonly used for both text and image by advertisers, thus increasing the auction pressure to appear on your site. Make sure to insert at least one of these ad formats on your pages.

2. Ad Placement – Be Noticed

Position your ads so that they are visible without compromising the user experience on your site. If you position your ad units well, users will be more likely to see them and find an ad that they are interested in.

Great positions include:

  • Above the fold of a page: the section of the page a user can see without scrolling down. Because browsers and screen sizes vary, Google has created a nice tool that allows you to enter any URL, and check whether you’ve implemented your ads above the fold.
  • Integrated with your content: placing a format such as the Medium Rectangle (300 x 250) directly inside your primary content will be highly visible. You need to ensure that your visitors will clearly differentiate this ad unit from the rest of your text though, so we recommend a complementary color code to make it stand out (see next section for more suggestions on color integration).
  • At the end of an article: your visitors will probably be interested in learning more about a certain topic after reading an article on your site. Formats such as the Leaderboard (728 x 90), the Banner (468 x 60), or the Half Banner (234 x 60) are best suited to place at the end of your content and provide related links to your users.

3. Ad Colors – Design to Impress

Ad unit design and color codes will greatly impact your performance.

As a rule of thumb, your AdSense ad units should complement the overall look and feel of your site to increase the effectiveness of your ads and not detract from the user experience.

Blending ad colors into the background of your site can soften the ad appearance while the ‘Sponsored Links” title clearly identify the section as an ad unit. We recommend that you create a custom color palette theme on your site to accentuate title, information text, and URL color.

But don’t just take our word for it as every website is different. Test out different ad layouts to understand which style performs the best for your site.

Google AdSense allows publishers to place a maximum of three ads per page. While some find it beneficial to use all of these ad units, others will make more profits when using one or two ad units only.

Put yourself in your users’ shoes, and you’ll be able to structure your website’s content with a successful ad strategy.

Although Google AdSense is user-friendly, it may be tricky to integrate all the facets of the program and maximise your online revenue. Contact our team of experts at hello@moonshotdigital.com if you need help optimising your ad implementation.
